AI companies are finally taking Indian users seriously. First, Google rolled out Gemini Pro free for 1 year to Indian students. Then, Perplexity AI offered the Perplexity Pro plan free for 1 year to Airtel users.

And now, OpenAI on Tuesday launched its India-exclusive low-cost subscription plan called ChatGPT Go. The best part? It’s priced almost the same as your Starbucks coffee!

ChatGPT Go is a new low-cost subscription plan launched for Indian users. OpenAI released this plan on August 18, 2025. It is powered by their flagship model, GPT-5.

As of now, ChatGPT Go costs ₹399 per month for all users in India. One thing to note is that even if business users add a GST number, the price remains the same.

Payment Options for Indian Users

OpenAI claims to support card payments and UPI for Indian users. However, I didn’t find any UPI option available on their pricing portal. Currently, you can pay using any credit or debit card.

How to Buy ChatGPT Go?

To upgrade from the free version to ChatGPT Go or purchase it as a first-time user, the process is very simple. Just follow these steps:

1) Sign up or log in to ChatGPT

Go to the official ChatGPT website and sign up or log in with your Gmail ID. Once logged in, your ChatGPT dashboard will open.

2) Upgrade your plan

At the top of the dashboard, you’ll see an “Upgrade to Go” button. Click on it to open the pricing page. If you don’t see the button, check the profile section; the option is available there as well.

3) Purchase the plan

Select the Go plan and click on “Upgrade to Go” again. The payment page will open where you can enter your debit/credit card details, billing address, and GST number (for business users). 

Finally, click Subscribe, and you’re all set!

How to Use ChatGPT Go After Purchase?

Using ChatGPT Go isn’t rocket science; it works almost the same way as the free version of ChatGPT-5. Once you complete your purchase, you’ll see the ChatGPT-5 dashboard. Let me guide you through it in two simple steps:

1. Basic Tasks

You can use ChatGPT Go for simple queries, just like in the free plan. For example, I asked ChatGPT to write an email asking for sick leave. 

Prompt:

Write an email to my boss requesting sick leave for two days.

As I used a simple prompt, the output here was very basic. But if you refine your prompt and make it more detailed, you’ll get a much more personalized response. 

Improved Prompt:

Write a polite and professional email to my boss requesting sick leave for two days as I’m suffering from viral fever. Mention that I will keep them updated on my recovery and ensure that any urgent tasks are managed during my absence.

As you can see, the improved prompt gives more tailored output. You can also adjust tonality, add context, or specify extra details.

2. Advanced Tasks

ChatGPT now comes with multiple specialized tools, each designed for different use cases. Here are some examples:

1) Reasoning model

This is useful when you need a multi-step analysis of a topic. For instance, I asked ChatGPT for Instagram reel ideas for a specific audience during the festive season and used the “Think Longer” tool.

My prompt:

Give me 10 Instagram reel ideas around festive shopping hacks for Durga Puja, targeting shopaholic Gen Z. 

2) Real-time Search

Instead of switching between multiple Google tabs, you can use ChatGPT’s web search mode to get answers instantly. For example, I used it to check stock prices and fundamental research.

My prompt:

Analyze Infosys’ stock prices and provide a fundamental analysis. Consider both NSE and BSE data.

3) File analysis

ChatGPT allows you to upload images, PDFs, or documents and then ask questions directly. This saves time by extracting key insights without reading long files manually.

My prompt:

Summarize the key points from the attached PDF and generate 10 important FAQs for understanding the topic.

❌ No access to Codex agent (specialized for coding tasks)

❌ No legacy GPT-4o model or legacy model access (available only for Pro and Plus plan users)

❌ No priority access during peak hours or early access to new features
